Elevation of Divergent Color Polymorphic and Monomorphic Lizard Lineages (Squamata: Agamidae) to Species Level

چکیده

The Australian Tawny Dragon lizard (Ctenophorus decresii), as currently recognized, comprises two genetically divergent lineages, northern and southern, that differ notably in male coloration. A narrow contact zone exists between the lineages with asymmetric limited hybridization, indicating incompatibility highlighting need for further taxonomic assessment. Here, we evaluate morphological variation C. decresii elevate to separate species. southern lineage retains name (Duméril Bibron, 1837), formally reinstate modestus lineage, which was previously a synonym of (Amphibolurus modestus,Ahl, 1926). We redescribe highlight important considerations reevaluation their conservation statuses. Recognition represents another species may have differentiated relatively mesic mountainous refugia during Pleistocene glacial-interglacial cycles, underscores importance divergence coloration driver speciation rock dragon group.

Local adaptation and divergence in colour signal conspicuousness between monomorphic and polymorphic lineages in a lizard.

Population differences in visual environment can lead to divergence in multiple components of animal coloration including signalling traits and colour patterns important for camouflage. Divergence may reflect selection imposed by different receivers (conspecifics, predators), which depends in turn on the location of the colour patch. We tested for local adaptation of two genetically and phenoty...

Helminth parasites of the African lizard Agama agama (Squamata: Agamidae), in Lagos, Nigeria.

Agama agama, the agamid rainbow lizard, has been reported to serve as transport and reservoir host to several protozoan and helminth parasites. We randomly sampled 310 specimens between May and July, 2005, at Oyingbo, Lagos, Nigeria (6 degrees 34'60" N-3 degrees 19'59" E and 6 degrees 34'60" N-3 degrees 19'59" E).They harboured four species of nematodes: Strongyluris brevicaudata, Parapharyngod...

Resurrection of Bronchocela burmana Blanford, 1878 for the Green Crested Lizard (Squamata, Agamidae) of southern Myanmar

Recent fieldwork in southern Tanintharyi revealed the presence of a small Green Crested Lizard in the wet evergreen forest. We generated mtDNA sequence data (ND2) that demonstrates that this population's nearest relative is Bronchocela rayaensis Grismer et al., 2015 of Pulau Langkawi, northwestern Peninsular Malaysia and Phuket Island. Morphologically the Burmese Bronchocela shares many feature...

Relationships between hormones, physiological performance and immunocompetence in a color-polymorphic lizard species, Podarcis melisellensis.

Species with alternative phenotypes offer unique opportunities to investigate hormone-behavior relationships. We investigated the relationships between testosterone, corticosterone, morphology, performance, and immunity in a population of lizards (Podarcis melisellensis) which exhibits a color polymorphism. Males occur in three different color morphs (white, yellow, orange), providing an opport...

Encoding Monomorphic and Polymorphic Types

Most automatic theorem provers are restricted to untyped logics, and existing translations from typed logics are bulky or unsound. Recent research proposes monotonicity as a means to remove some clutter. Here we pursue this approach systematically, analysing formally a variety of encodings that further improve on efficiency while retaining soundness and completeness. We extend the approach to r...
